It seems more specifically Excel and Quickbooks. I've seen that alot lately. It also depends what field your looking into and what the job is looking for. Some jobs want you to have some accounting skills while others it may not be necessary. If you were applying for an administrative assistant job working in dentist office, you would probably need experience in Dentrix. If you wanted to be AA working in a lawyers office you would need advanced skills in word perfect, word, dictation etc,. Decide what industry you want to work in first eg. Legal,Real Estate this makes it alot easier to find out what specific skills you need. Maybe try and obtain the MOS certification and quickbooks certification. Try to volunteer to gain skills. Volunteer Match is great website try entering in your location and input administrative assistant or clerical. Volunteering can also fill in the gaps on your resume so the prospective employer doesn't think your lazy and have just been sitting home. Volunteering can also help you expand your network do a good job and you could get great reference and I'm sure if there were any openings you might be given a heads up on it also.
