What is the best training for becoming an operations manager? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective operations manager?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

I worked for several years in operations functions, working my way up to a department manager in the operations area, before becoming an operations manager. Explore some of the functions the operations manager oversees (estimating, vendor relations, accounting, payroll, etc) and see if you can work your way up through one of those areas.
