PHP Developer

I went to school but my school sucked I did get a basic knowledge in PHP, I want to know any advice in how do I become a good Web Developer in PHP. Should I re-read my books, should I build mock site with shopping carts, I wouldn't mind an intership in PHP but I can't afford to leave my current job, any advice? I want to make good money and I live in Southern California. Thanks

Start making custom wordpress themes, that's what I did. I went to a pretty slack school as well.

Books and School by itself is not enough.

There are a lot of online resources. Start out by downloading, studying and customizing simple and common open source PHP applications such as WordPress, OSCommerce, Magento, Joomla, Drupal, Zend Framework, etc.

You can also learn a lot by working in a small team of experience developers. Our company is hiring (located in San Diego) but you need to have experience. Apply anyway, there may be opening for internship:
