Hi, I'm getting ready to graduate with my BS in Finance (concentration in banking) and am currently interviewing with several banks for different types of positions. Besides my degree I have 3 years (1 full year and 2 summers) of retail banking experience.
A large bank has contacted me about interviewing for a personal banker position @ around $34k base salary + performance bonuses. The position sounds similar to what I have been doing over the summers already w/out my degree.
A smaller bank has contacted me about going into a commercial lending program, we have not discussed salary however it did offer education benefits for getting an MBA.
Which position do you think offers a better career path to being an executive in the banking industry? Retail or lending? Currently I am leaning towards lending, I plan on interviewing in person for both positions however.
