Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing? Where are the jobs? Which places have the most personal care attendant opportunities? |

There are plenty of openings, but no real good pay. The benefits are still lacking and there is not a lot of advancement opportunities. My workplace has had a extreme turnover rate and in the last seven years, I haven't seen my site be fully staffed once. Most of us PCA's are working on the average of 10-20 hours of overtime a week just to ensure the basic needs of our consumers are being met. This has raised the amount of workplace injuries also. Most new hires leave within a month as they can get the same pay (or better) at a retail/restaurant business. I personally haven't had a raise in over three years and I am going to making the switch to another field as well. It's sad, but after 10 years, I can't afford to wait for this company to get it's act together an longer. The only ones who really lose out are the consumers. |
