Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

of course, depending on the city. key word, city you work in... obviously i get paid a ton more money living in nyc, then if i was living in say buffalo,ny.. as far as skills are concerned, more certifications, the more money...

have you ever thought of working over seas? if you have a license and can pass a very thorough back ground check etc... you can make real good $$$. look into it. I have worked in the states for close to 19 years in pest control all forms, fum, L&O, termite, comm, res, office etc... it's all the same, do more stops, less complaints, sell sell sell... best of luck to all!

Honestly troops-there was a time when I had spent hours studying the art of Pest Control inluding Botany-Chemistry-etc.I was trained in Miami by the greatest techs of that time who were former Entemologists and Combat engineers of the Vietnam war.For years and years I wiped out Rats-Ants- and every iving thing using the accrued knowledge here in California.I had also worked in Oklahoma.I massacred thousands of Rats using these geomerical forms and nailing the traps at 90' and 45' angles.I could take three of these Rat machines and wipe out 30-40 rats in a week, just clean and resest it and Voila!6-8 dead rats-in one night.I studied the works of edward O wilson and found teqhniques to bait Argentine ants and other areas of Pest Control. The problem?Policies of these Companies. The Policies. All you can do is obey the technical policies of any company. That's it troops.Just put the trap on the ground and forget about it.In 2001 AT I had a kill rate % off the scale. The number 2 guy had a kill rate of 117% per cent. Why?Because he learned from me.They said I killed too many rats in Los Altos to Stanford and palo alto.So they banned my invention. All you can do today is learn the companies policies and for get inventiveness.it is lost with Policiy-Sorry.

I would say that if you have no experience-but have an interest in the work-get on line with the National Pest Control Assoc.and see the info they have on Entemology. You gotta have and interest in this subject.Or you'll hate it in time.Mis-identification kills Companies and it happens more than not-almost.I went out on a Job one time where 3 Managers kept jamming up the Technician for Oriental roaches, and the guy was furious over the continued Roaches and would'nt pay for 3 months.I took over the situation and realized that they were Pine-Borers.The Pine tree was hanging over the guys pool almost. They were Pine-Borers.Not Oriental roaches.I won't name the Company.Today you will make more for Customer relations skills-selling-and basically just smile and be nice.Unless you're in the South. That is the reall world of Pest Control and if you can't hang in the South-don't even play with this.New techs should'nt be sent on Brown recluse Spider starts with little training where the MGR.say'"Just go spray,son",.."You'll be fine" because the problem as well is Post_service bites after the Technician has agitated the hell out of the insects with Kicker or something real groovy-leaves the Bill and the 7 year old jumps in bed and ther goes the hospital bill and surgery. This is a tricky business in some places.California is your Basic kill Geographic,in most areas-except like I say-Rats.I'm not working right now trying to get back to florida. That's okay.Till i get back there is life after Pest Control. That was at Orkin in san Jose where I had that kill rate in 2001, like I say-Everything is Company Policy in the Technical world here.Guys here have never even seen a Brown recluse Spider-Cicada Killers-Fire ants-emperor scorpions etc. They probably would'nt even go near the house.Guys don't go around the house here with a snake pole before services. They don't have to.Go to Oklahoma-you'd be a fool not to.

Oh yeah-I said 6-8 rats in one night?I meant 16-18 in one night.about 3 times I hit 23 in one shot.I used to call these encounters "Rat Nam" and told the customer do not go intothe crawl space or the attic.Just giving an idea what can be done with some inventiveness.About that time I was at salary-1993?about $1675.00 an month and 23% commission at Terminix in Mt View,Ca.Two years before that we were the Top Branch in the Nation in 1991.Vance miller was the Branch manager who passed away about 3 years ago.Very sad.he was a great manager who will not be forgotten by those of us who worked for Vance "First",..he treated us decently and had our backs and paid us okay.
