I have just been accepted into the Allegany College of Maryland's Pharm Tech class. Im pretty excited about this. Its going to cost me $3000 for 16 credit hours. They set me up in a 15 week Internship while I attend school for the semester. I will also be taking a CPR first aid class which doesnt really matter but Its an added bonus I suppose. It sounded like the clear choice if this is the career I want to pursue. Does anyone think this will be good/bad..????? |

Honestly, you don't really have to pay all that money for a semester of class that you aren't REQUIRED to take. In West Virginia you have other options that will actually PAY you as you work towards a CPhT License. You need to get hired on as a Technician Trainee at any pharmacy within WV, work for 2,080 hours within 2 years (if part time) or 1 year (if full time). You are then eligible to sit for you state licensure exam. You get paid while you work towards your certification, and its the same thing you would attain with the $3000 class. It does take longer, but most employers pay for your testing fee. I can also tell you that you can take the National License on your own and take it when you feel comfortable (you can study on your own time). I think it costs about $170. My employer paid for this test fee also. However if you would feel more comfortable taking the class, then you should do that. It may take longer, but the way I went didn't cost me any money at all. |

Well I think I decided to take a different course. Its actually taught here in my town and it only costs $900. Ive tried to do your method but I cant get any pharmacies to hire me. So I figure if I get become a CPht it will help me stand out a little more in the crowd and help me get hired. |
