Need help with a pharm tech school tapered dose RX ..... Can someone please help me resolve this?

A doctor's RX reads Prednisone 10mg tablets # QS. The SIG is:

30mg bid x 2d
25mg bid x 2d
20mg bid x 2d
15mg bid x 2d
10mg qd x 2d
5mg qd x 2d

I need to calculate the total number of tablets needed to fill the RX. I than need help in writing up the correct patient label that would come with the order. Please feel free to e-mail me your solution at a.stefanowicz@att.net.

Since, using 10mg tabs

3+2.5+2+1.5+1+.5 = 11 tabs in total including the 0.5 tabs

Hope that helps :)

Calculate total mg needed per day, multiply mg by number of days at that dosage. Add all daily total mgs together, then divide by the unit dose you are using, (pill mgs in this case)

(1)30mgx2(bid)=60mgx2days= 120mg
(2)25mgx2(bid)=50mgx2days= 100mg
(3)20mgx2(bid)=40mgx2days= 80mg
(4)15mgx2(bid)=30mgx2days= 60mg
(5)10mgx1(qd) =10mgx2days= 20mg
(6)5mgx1 (qd) =5mgx2days = 10mg
*ADD 120+100+80+60+20+10 = 390mg / 10mg tab= 39 tablets in total needed for RX.
