What are typical photographer salaries? Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

Larry,
What gear are you using? There's opps out there for sport but you need a tele. 80-200 2.8 is what you need.

raise your pricing. Under cutting is the killer in this biz. Improve your shooting and you can demand more money.

Good luck,

GH

My gear was bad. I've been using a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It is very weather sensitive and I'm looking into buying a 1D Mark III, now that I'm stuck with canon lenses.

STUCK with CANON lenses!?!? You should be so lucky...they make the best glass around. Which lenses do you use, do you shoot RAW,

The lenses work better than the camera, until they hit blacktop at 55 MPH and then are run over by cars!

I have a 300MM telephoto and I ruined a wide angle telephoto. I don't shoot raw, I shoot max resolution JPEG's.

Larry, Once you learn HOW to use a camera and the technical aspects of composition, you might make a few dollars. But to even think that some guy who looks like a mortician's assistant will actually get a job photographing industry models is quite laughable. really dude, you can't even get a easy little shot from a high school football game

Hi Jay,
I have seen only one Bollywood movie so far. It was a movie about a woman who was abused by her husband and she set him on fire and killed him.

I thought that the movie was pretty good. I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. USA. How can I help you?

Don't read what the other morons wrote in this section. They are the haters who steal ideas from original photographers like me.

What skills you need depend on the type of photography that you work in. As in some businesses there are specialties to photography.

Modeling portfolios are portrait photography. Calendars of human subjects are portrait photography. I also do sports, landscapes, and whatever else I can get myself into.

The main skills that I use as a portrait photographer or any other photography are honesty, and good social interaction skills. You have to be able to talk to people. If you are new and can't answer one or more of their questions; tell them this. Don't try to lie to cover it up.

If you are honest with people, it will pay off in the long run. Good Luck and Good Shooting!
