Hello, I tend to be a very quesy person when it comes to lots of blood and open wounds. I was wondering if working in outpatient clinics or nursing homes as an assistant if that would be a big factor? Or if I should be looking into a different career choice. Also, was just wondering what an assistants typical day is like? Thanks in advance for any help!

Most likely you're not going to see many open wounds in an outpatient setting. Nursing homes and hospital settings you're going to see some more

On a typical day that depends on what area you're working in...Home health, Skilled nursing or outpatient

If you don't like wounds, forget about nsg homes. Unfortunately, pressure wounds are an uphill battle in nursing homes. You probably won't see many in OP, but you may see people after surgery so you could see drainage and surgical wounds.

Are you in school? Part of your training will involve wound care, even if you don't want to do it after you graduate. Even though it seems that wound care duties are slowly being taken away from PT's/PTA's it is part of the profession. I would never discourage ppl from joining this profession, but I want to be honest with you.

A typical day for a PTA involves seeing all of your scheduled patients and consulting with the evaluating PT if there are any concerns about the patients progress or goals. You may have to participate in team conference meetings, but that is usually weekly. Depending on the setting, paperwork may be done before you go to lunch or before you go home at the end of the day. Or you could do your documentation as you go along in hospitals or home health.
