I live in San Diego and am interested in pursuing a career as a PTA. Mesa College in San Diego has a PTA program but is not taking applications until further notice b/c of a probation or something. There are no other PTA programs in the area. Does anyone have any advice on how I get started on an Associates in PTA? I was thinking about taking my gen ed classes that are required and then transfering if the Mesa College program becomes available. But I would really like to go start to finish in one program. Is there any PTA programs online? Does anyone know of any close to San Diego? Any help in getting starting on my journey to becoming a pta would be greatly appreciated. |

Take all of your Anatomy, physiology, physics, chemistry and other pre-reqs. Grossmont most likely has them. Also look at Mesa's Program and see if there are any pre-req's you can take online somewhere. |

Pima is working on starting a PTA program. I saw them advertising for a PTA Program Director. Who knows how long it will be though? As for Prereqs, you should be able to take them at Mesa or even Palomar, someplace closer to you in Esco, without having to go all the way to Grossmont. |

Thank you for the information about Pima. I called them and they didn't have any information about it yet. But I will call back at a later date. Do you happen to have a list of the exact classes I need as prereqs...for example eng 100, speech etc? I think they are slightly different for someone going in to the medical field. I have tried to set up an appt with a counselor but they are booked so I am going to have to wait. Thanks for your help. |

Graduated from Mesa College in 1990. Sad to hear what has happened. It was one of the best and well known in the country at one time. My 20 year career in the field has served me well. |

Concorde Career College inSan Diego has just received approval to discuss their new PTA program. The first start is scheduled for late June of 2011. Please feel free to give the DOA a call. |

Concorde College has the Physical Therapy Assistant Program Available. It's 20 months long, so it's not bad. I actually went to Concorde College for the Medical Assistant Program, learned a lot and liked their structure. The only downfall to that school is that they suck at helping you getting a job. Unless your willing to look for a job yourself I would reccommend this school. |

I spoke with the director at Concorde and they are not yet accredited, and they wont know if they are getting accredited until 2013. Meaning you could get through the entire program and not be able to get a license to use the degree. They said if they fail to get accredited they will refund the money but that does not refund your time. That's a pretty big risk. Perhaps do COTA instead or something else. |

Thanks amy for the information. Would you happen to know the start dates for the physical therapy assistant program? And if so, do you know if night classes are available? Thanks |

San Juan College (New Mexico) has a mostly online program. You just need to go in for a few days in April and July for lab. I heard their program is excellent and hopefully will be starting their online program soon |

They have a new program at Casa Loma College that starts in June, 2012. I heaer it is cheaper than Concord and you don't have to have any prerequisites. Does anyone know abaout it? |
