I am currently a sophmore biology major, interested in becoming a PA. I have a 3.3 GPA and would like to attend the Medical College of Georgia's PA program. In the fall of 2010, I will have completed all the required courses as stated on MCG's web page. They require 90 hours and a minimum 100 volunteer hours. However, my advisor says that my chances are better if I have a Bachelor's degree. I was wondering, if I should get an RN degree or continue with the Biology program (it will be the same amount of hours). I am going to apply, hopefully to be accepted with 90 hours. If not, do you think getting an RN degree would improve my chances. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into MCG's PA program?

I am a Dental Hygienist who is working towards completing the requirements at USC Aiken. I don't think having another degree will increase your chances. Make sure you do well in Math and Science courses. Also, make sure the references that you have show that you have made effort in fulfilling the hours that are required by MCG. I personally know of two PA's who did not have degrees prior to getting accepted into the college. One is a male who was a paramedic and the other is also a male with no medical experience. Go for it. Good luck!
