Are physician job opportunities growing or declining?

This is a major question in the field. Several groups are predicting a major shortage in physicians in the coming 2 decades. The AAMC has recommended ramping up med school positions - but it's not clear that will really solve the problem.

As a recent analysis shows (www.netdoc.com/Physician-Practice-Articles/General-Medical-Practice/Are-physicians-a-vanishing-breed-%11-the-looming-physician-shortage/) the problem isn't too few physicians (in fact, there were more several hundred more physicians applying than residency slots in the 2007 match), rather a shortage in specific geographic locations. Adding more med school slots probably won't solve that problem.
