It doesn't make much sense to pilot anything there. I have over 5000 flight hours here in the US and other countries. I have flown a few planes there and it was always a problem. First and foremost their equipment is not very good.

does it make sense??

Yes it makes sense - they get lots of pilots arriving there - all with low hours looking for their first jobs. Life is different and to some difficult there. Especially if you are used to people and life beyond 6pm. Life is very quiet (this goes for Namibia as well - even in Windhoek the capital!). Life for wife/girlfriend/family is even harder to adjust to. And at the end of the day - companies are prepared to hire you because they like you. The other pilots may also get some say in the hiring process - as the companies want to create a harmonic atmosphere - pilots that LIKE each other. Look up Sefofane's website - they will tell you all about it. Most companies won't reply to emails or phone calls. You must go there and apply yourself. That's the only way.
And as we've just come from there that it's tough to find work in the region. Both Namibia and Botswana governments are pushing the hiring of local pilots (most certainly ahead of foreigners) and the govt are supporting and training locals. You may find companies can't hire you because they must give priority to locals. Of course like anywhere - each person has different luck - so you really must go and just try.
GOOD LUCK!

Hi there,
I have being for 15 months in Botswana, great country to be, and made my license there, within 6 months with very hard working and lots of hours flying mainly in Gabs. Botswana is great to fly, wonderfull to be and the people are very nice and friendly and never experienced any corruption.
Getting a job as a pilot is not easy, they prefer local citizens and if you are happy with the minimum of salary you can get, you will manage it to get a job but you have to be in Maun.
Via phone and email doesn't work, you have to do it f2f.
Can tell you one thing, if I winn the lottery, I will start a flight school over there.
Good luck.....

Pilots NEVER want to hear that you don't want to be paid. Don't sell your soul to anyone! There are ways to earn time AND be paid for it!

From what I understand, the reason they want pilots to go there instead of apply over the internet is mainly due to the different lifestyle. They want to be sure that a pilot is able to work and live in the harsh conditions of Africa (the heat etc).

Well you probably won't get a job at Air Botswana as your first job. Maybe not even your second or third job. But, if you've read this thread, and looked at all at the situation in Botswana, you'll know that there are pilots flying in Maun right now with just a commercial license - bare minimum to fly for money. They fly Cessna 206'ss for a year and end up with about 800 to 900 more hours than they started with, which puts them over 1000 hours. Then they either fly 208's (single engine turbines) or go to another country and fly small twins for a year, then they'll have a chance at getting hired for a small air carrier. If you do this, you'll probably be able to get on at Air Botswana.

First, since you are an Indian national, you will need to obtain citizenship in a country that has better relations with Botswana. Sorry to be so blunt, but the fact is that there is only one Indian national who has been able to get work in Botswana in the last ten years or so. The government of botswana will only grant 30 days visa's to indian nationals, and the bare minimum wait time in botswana has always been 2 months, most people end up waiting more than 3 months to get their first position.

then you have to go to botswana and talk to the pilots and wait...

I'm really not sure you can read English very well.

IF YOU ARE FROM INDIA YOU WILL NOT GET MORE THAN A 30 DAY VISA and you will NEED AT LEAST 3 MONTHS (that's 90 days 3 months of 30 days each). If you have a problem with this contact your government, they have a relationship with Botswana and Namibia that restricts visas to 30 days.
