Second, if you have a small private airport nearby, they probably have a pilot training program. They'll tell you all you need to know. Otherwise, look in your local phone book for pilot training. |

You must competent in these areas. The JAA license requires much math and science, but even though it is an in depth license, it is much more than you will ever use in actual line flying. If you are a good to above average student you have what it takes to be a pilot. Being able to know how systems work, the gas system in your car for example, is beneficial, this is stuff that you use. You must know the systems in your particular aircraft. I have a FAA license and it was definitely good enough for any of the flying that I did anywhere in the world. Being a pilot isnt that hard to do, but you must be competent. You can do it. |

Hi. I am an airline pilot with a FAA JAA and DGAC(the mexican Agency), and i can tell you it doesn't take that much, geography is nowhere near important, you will fly too high or in the clouds and the ground or aviation charts do not look anything like your standard geography map, but of course it wouldn`t hurt if you are good at it. You do have to be good in math, but as al said not super great, the math we use is not like super integral vectorial and differential calculus, it is standard math, subtractions divisions additions, we use a lot of rule of thumb, guesstimation, but you do have to be able to do it fast and right, is more of mathematical agility than math knowledge. As for science you don`t have to know a lot, but you have to like it, engines systems aerodynamics, they will teach you everything so don`t sweat it. The most important skill but i guess you wont have any trouble at it as it is your mother language is be able to understand read and speak English as it is the international aviation language. As for profile or personality skills you have to be able to receive understand and separate a lot of information in a short amount of time and then recognize and use what is pertinent to the situation. you also need to be able to keep it cool under stressful dangerous situations, we have a saying in aviation, "fire=calm, more fire=even more calm". it helps being a problem solver or a creative person, every situation is different always. Health-wise: you need to have a 20/20 sight, if you were glasses don`t worry as long as it is correctable, that is 20/20 with your glasses on you are ok, a limit would be daltonism, and it helps to be fit. I hope this was of some help, and in advance i welcome you to the pilot community doesn't matter if your thinking of doing it professionally or as a hobby, it is an amazing beautiful experience, wouldn`t trade it for anything. It is adventure science and art all in one.

i don't think you have to know more mathematics to be an airline pilot. But i can tell you that you have to be able to solve questions. The most important thing is that you have to know the formula so that you won't get in a trouble. Thank you hope you will success your dream. |
