What do you enjoy most about being a print production artist? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance?

What keeps you at your job?

I really enjoy what I do. I was in a graphic designer role at my work and always seemed to get into more details about production with coming up with new templates, new processes, etc. I finally could not handle both and a new position was created, the print production artist.

I still design - both on the job and for my freelance clients. Now I am the manager of a small print production dept. within our creative team.

The challenges are to catch every mistake and making sure every designer's job that comes across our plates is clean and print-ready.

I would advise any designer out there that has a chance to learn some prepress to go for it. A designer who can design AND make that design print is very valuable.

I like being given a project and working alone, not that I don't get along with people, I do. I just prefer to work alone much like a barber, artist, or musician.
