What is the best training for becoming a printing press operator? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective printing press operator?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

Unfortunally hands on is the best place to get experience.....the trade schools are not going towards the printing area 70 and 80's you would see a lot of vocutational schools offering training in offset printing... budget cuts and the computer has changed that, you have about 20 years left for the tradational printing press........Learn by the best press operator in the print shop you are working ask a lot of questions........

To qualify as a good operator, you need experience and knowledge. I've read a lot on wikipedia. Also, there's a site called colorwiki or something like that. You also might try sites like www.printingpressman.com. Nothing can replace experience, but arming yourself with knowledge can give you an advantage.
