Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing? Where are the jobs? Which places have the most printing press operator opportunities? |

I've operated 1 to 6 color printing presses and never been unemployed until this year. I even tried teaching the subject in public education grades 9th to 12th and both school systems stop the vocational subjects from beeing taught due to the change in technolgy not being able to keep up. |

the printing industry is great except now you must learn digital presses...you guys are right ..everything is going into digital..i was working for this company for 22 yrs and got laid off...now is very hard to get a job or keep one that will pay you a decent amount..as every one is cutting wages ...so i did change my career it wasnt easy but i didnt want to be laid off again..now im my own boss...total flexability..always keep you options open..have a side job or earn some extra money on the side..built your nest while working full-time job... |

I've been a web pressman for 19 years. I've seen many pressmen come and go. One thing is certain though, those that have good work habits and can distinguish themselves are either well taken care of by the company I work for, or quickly find something else. I believe you can be successful at this trade, but just like anything else you need to work at it. Here's a good article I found that helps when looking for a job as a pressman.

And those under 50 want to see it on there computer, and in ten years there wont be a need for most printing. So change your career to truck driving. I agree with u 100 percent I was a printer for 30 years just laid off my wife is a class b driver drives a school bus loves it thats what im going for no stress |

I have been an offset press operator for over 35 years. I learned how to operate heidelberg presses from letterpress to large offset press in germany. what i have noticed is, that most of the older pressmen are unemployed, and most of them have trained their replacements. the companies are getting greedy and they don't care about quality any more (at least here in northern Illinois). As an older press operator you're overqualified, because they don't want to pay the money you're worth. the only thing they can do is to change their careers. the printing industry the way we know it is going down the drain. |
