I am graduating in April with a Masters in Project Management degree and wondering how to improve my chances of landing a job in the field. Can anyone suggest a staffing agency or recruiting firm that places Project Managers, Project Assistants and Project Coordinators? I am in the Chicago and NW Indiana area.

You should submit your resume to ThinkEnergy group, they are headhunters for the construction industry. Also Shaw Group just got awarded the contract for a couple of Nuke jobs in Augusta, GA, you might try them, too. If you don't have any actual field experience you may have to settle for a position in contracts management or another role within a Project Management Team until you "pay your dues" and get your own project. There are quite a few experienced Project Managers with comparable education who are currently unemployed so just getting your foot in the door right now might be the best advice. I hope this helps and that I don't sound discouraging.

No, Joseph, you don't sound discouraging at all. Thank you for the leads. My challenge has been to determine what other titles I should be searching for. Besides (Assistant) Project Manager, Project Coordinator and Project Assistant, I hadn't really gotten a good handle on the various titles out there that could put me on the path to a PM role in the future.

I earned my MPM, Master's in Project Management last year and have been unable to find any work as well. Like what was mentioned earlier, most employers need field experience in order to use a PM. I am now taking another MS in Construction Management and interviewing with construction companies. However, most construction companies I have interviewed with can only offer an intern position starting at the bottom. Not quite sure what to do.

I have been searching Project Controls Specialist or just Project Controls. I hope that helps.
