Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

I made $132K last year and work from home. I have friends who freelance and are making anywhere from $50 to $100 an hour. They have more offers for work than they can handle but do contend with with the less attractive issues of self-employment.

Hi, Sharon,

This is exactly the thread I was seeking. Your comments give me hope.

I've been a proposal coordinator since 2000. I've wanted to freelance but I'm stuck doing traditional employment because of the need for health insurance. How were you able to swing working from home as a proposal manager?

Thanks much.

Hi Sharon,

I have just started my own freelance Proposal Writing business and I am looking for new contract opportunities. I'm wondering if you could share my name and website with your friends that might want to sub-contract their overflow to me (or provide me with their contact info, and I will follow up with them myself. My website is www.Proposal-Writer.com, and my name is Julia Tentzerakis, MBA.

Many thanks!

Hi Sharon !
I have 20+ years in proposals and would like to make th transition to work at home. I am very good at working from home. I am frustrated that I have 4 sdifferent proposal manager jobs at various corporations in 2009. So working for myself might be a different kind of stability.

How did you/ how can I start working from home?
Make the contacts with the right companies to do their proposals?

Thank you for your comment on the web!

Do you or your friends charge a commission per project or do your clients off a bonus for winning proposals as part of your agreement.

I need to find information on the average salary for Proposal Managers working in Northern Virginia on govt proposals(OCONUS contracts). The numbers I'm seeing when I search for average salaries doesn't jibe with what I know several acquaintences are currently earning, so I'm looking for some anecdotal information to support a raise request. I have 24 years experience in the military, and currently earn about $105k, but I haven't seen a raise in more than two years so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
