1. the ability to multi-task..
you must be able to talk, ask questions, read the questions from the medical info so you know WHAT to ask, and type it into the field in such a way that the officers/EMS personell can understand and know what they are looking for...basically, you always have to be 3 steps ahead.

2. Know the streets in the area where you work VERY WELL...
it is much easier to tell an officer the location of an accident if you know the street system and landmarks well...(like "southbound on Main just past Martin's in the right inbound lane") since people in emergencies aren't real good at giving you good info.

3. the ability to "read between the lines"...
you may have to question someone several times before you get the answer you need, and sometimes you just have a feeling that they aren't telling you everything..you have to know when to push a little harder...(you wouldn't believe the bizarre things I have heard...)
