I just moved to Broomfield, CO around 4 months ago and I am wanting to persue a job in the Radiology Tech field. I am having trouble locating all the different schools in this area. I did find that St. Anthony's Hospital has a program, but I was hoping to apply to more than just one school so I would have a better chance of starting in 2011. Does anyone have any more information? PLEASE HELP!

Why does everybody want to get into the radiology tech field? There are hardly no jobs left in this field. It is completely saturated with techs all over the country. I would recommend doing more research on the job market for radiology techs in the future before deciding to go to school for it. I've been a radiology/MRI tech for 13 yrs now and I cant even find a fulltime job. Look at some of the comments from people on this website having difficulty finding jobs. Its even harder for new graduates to find a job right now. Hopefully in the future things will get better but only God knows the future.

Hi foxytrotter21,

I know this is an older post, hopefully you found a school to get into?! I too am looking for a few programs to apply for this fall and found that both Community College of Denver and Red Rock Community College offer RT programs. There are technical schools like Concorde or Pima, but they're double to cost of both the colleges and St. Anthony's. Hope you found a good program!

You should think very seriously before pursuing a career as a Radiologic Technologist. I live in an area that was a jewel in the crown for RT's and our local market has imploded. I last hired a FT MRI RT 6 years ago. Prior to that, I was hiring every 2 years on average. Old timers are hanging on (if possible) to their jobs and new graduates have at best, PRN only unless you just happen to get lucky. I know of at least 4 outpatient imaging centers that have closed here in the last 2 years and at least 2 more are for sale. If and when a position does open, only experienced Tech's are being considered. These places do not have the luxury of training someone for 6 months as everyone here is operating with minimal staff as it is.

Reimbursement for Radiology procedures have declined considerably and will continue to do so placing more and more pressure to reduce the the capital costs of running a Radiology service. You can only cut so much from your budget (fixed operating costs = rent, insurance, taxes, service contracts, etc.) the rest has to come from Staffing. The trend will not change anytime in the near future.

I've been in this field for 30 years. Please believe me when I tell you there is nothing on the horizon that will change the current dynamic. It is going to take a very long time for the current situation to change. This isn't some bump in the road and will magically correct itself even if the economy does rebound. This is a permanent, long term structural shift in the how healthcare is delivered.
