Seems to be mixed reports on the amount of jobs there are for the field. Some people say its worthwhile, while others say it is an overcrowded market. Can anyone weigh in? Also I have a felony cause I made the mistake of driving with a gun sometime but I believe I may be accepted to the program if I tried a few months down the line and explain what happened. Thanks |

well I applied to the RT program because entrance to the RN program is even MORE competitive. It's hard to even have the requirements just to apply to RN school because of all the additional courses many schools are adding to the curriculum like several more chemistry classes including Organic Chem and then you have to take an entrance exam and score really high on it. You feel like you're trying to get into med school I do know that there are many three year waiting lists in my area for the RT program so there is still a high interest in this field; maybe pre RT students haven't heard how saturated the field is. I know I didnt know until I visited this forum, but right now I have NO choice. I was put on the waitlist for RN school and didn't get in, tried at another RN school and was denied. So I tried RT school, and the admissions told me I have a good chance of getting in here...I will just have to make the best of it. I know what I am getting into, so I will be prepared and I wont expect getting hired right away |

No, it is still very bad. I graduated in early 2011 and I still have not been able to find a position, not even a per diem. My advise right now would be to go into another field. From what i heard from other technologist is that it is not going to get better anytime soon, there are way too many new graduates and no jobs. |

I'm sorry. It's actually worse. All those people who graduated with their RT are still looking for work, and the hospitals know it. This isn't just a cyclical downturn it's a structural change. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT GO INTO X-RAY! Thanks, Queenuvknow. |
