If there is not a union for radiologic technologist, this would be a good time to start one. ASRT has no problem taking money to be a lobby for RT's, but a union may do better to start protecting the rights of employed RT's and help with the RT's trying to get a Job. Just a thought!

I agree. Many other medical professionals have their own union. Why not Rad Techs too?

I totally agree. RT's need a union. Nurse's have one. I believe we could be just as strong. If RT's stick together. I feel RT's are so against doing this, yet they complain about the unfair practices. Now is the time. I don't understand this response to a union. 1199, come on. We have so many techs across the country. It can be done. I wish I knew how to start this. I've researched but no info out there on the subject. We should spread the word

If you find out how to start a union for RTs let me know because im interested too. Im fortunate to be employed right now but just prn. Down here in cheap Ga. most of the x-ray jobs that should be going to new graduates are going to medical assistants. Most of them dont have a clue about what they are doing.

They can do that in GA? You can't even touch an x-ray machine in VA unless you are a registered technologist. And you must have a license to practice in any setting other than a hospital.

The laws vary from state to state regarding having a x-ray license. In Ga you are not even required to have an x-ray license to do x-rays outside of a hospital. In a clinic or dr's office the person doing the x-rays could be a med assistant, a nurse or even a secretary. You are only required to be a arrt technologist to work in a hospital. This makes no sense to me and its more dangerous for patients. Its the same way in Florida as well. You dont have to be an arrt technologist to get an x-ray job in every state. Hopefully one day if a union is started by arrt registered RTs it would put a stop to these practices. I would definitely join.

I am so glad to hear the positive feed back and this is the very reason we need our own "union".

A union is LONG over due. The ARRT is NOT national as they claim, if they are please explain why there aren't 50 states that need it, and get rid of limited license', they kill us all. The ASRT is a shell, run by the ARRT, to make extra money and expand their influence. RN's and MD's actually own and control their licensing boards, thats why they are professionals. We need to do the same. The reason we don't get payed or respected to the level our education deserves is because we don't demand it.
I'm not interested in your stories about how your doctors treat you like gold or how you make $30 an hour but rather not say where. If that is true tell the rest of us what hospitals to apply to. For college grads we don't make enough and are considered "button pushers", my own supervisor has called us that. When patients and doctors/insurance companies start demanding qualified pros in all 50 states then this profession will get better, till then its not gonna happen. We need a unoin to stop the puppy mill effect and return us from Technition to Technologist.
My old Prof, always told us a technition pushes buttons, a technologist understands what those buttons do and how to work without them.

We as xray techs will never unionize. The closest you'll ever get is to work in a unionized hospital. What we need to do is take control of our profession and self regulate. Control the number of schools and students that graduate from them. We need to take back control of the ASRT and ARRT from the academic types who run them. In short more technologists need to get involved in their state chapters and with the ASRT. You all should read the platform statements of those running for office. All they care about is academics. They do not care about the technologists who actually work in the field.

Don't bother with union 1199. From present experience, I would rate them 0 out 5!
