I originally wanted to do diagnostic sonography but the tech school is not accredited so that means you have to find someone to hire you for 1 year before you can even take the exam.
Anyone else excited about the prospects of a new beginning? I am a 30 year old married woman and this is just the right time for me! My question really quick is what can I expect to make WHEN I find a job as a new radiologic tech? I live in GA so I am sure we are on the lower end. As long as I can make 30K a year I am fine with it. Just looking for an idea of what to expect and to tell the hubby. :) |

I graduated and got my AAS and certificate in May and if there's one piece of wisdom I have for anybody pursuing this degree, it's this: Start making connections. Volunteer, work somewhere in the hospital, or try for a student tech job during your second year. Anything to give you one leg up over someone else who just graduated from a program and had no work experience in it(which would've been me LOL). I think in OK you're looking at 16-18 dollars, higher if you're PRN, or lower if you're in a clinic setting. I don't know how much different GA would be. Goodluck, though :) |

Though I need to add, my numbers are based mostly on what friends have made as an entry level tech and in OK. I believe OK pays lower than most states. |

That is great advice. My brother in law works in nuclear medicine so I am going to talk to him as well. THank you for taking the time to respond. Congrats on graduating! |

Congrats on graduating! I wish someone would have told me these things because I didn't think it would be this hard after getting out of school. I was always told there would be jobs, I'd just have to travel to find them - not true. Thanks for the congrats. Send some well wishes on the job hunt too since I need it. :) |

Amy M, I am a Rad Tech, fresh out from school three months ago. If you are working for doctor's offices, you'll make close to 30 grands. If you work for the hospitals, you'll make at least 40 K. About jobs, it is the same as any other field but nursing. Nursing is in so much demand, every single one gets a job after graduation. Rad techs, they only hire the best at the hospitals. The rest will have to find a job at private clinics, get pay lesser, do more x-ray non related duties, but no calls, or holidays hours.

Definetly not..you must be certified in order to expose radiation. The schooling part just enables u to take the exam. |
