Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most Recreation opportunities?

These jobs are definitely on the decline. Budgets are getting slimmer and cities are not funding park districts adequately in many areas.

I just recently got my Master's Degree of Science in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration in December of 09' and have not found a job since graduating.

Our top student in the Master's program has applied for over 400 jobs within the last year and a half and has not found recreation work. She is currently going back to school to become and R.N.

This is NOT a good field to go into! Not to mention the jobs are being filled with crony hiring (i.e. people with teaching degrees, associates degrees in other fields, etc ... getting hired as recreation professionals by friends and family members, further cutting down the actual job prospects for actual trained recreation professionals with real world experience in the field.)
