Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

Depends on the location. East or West coast $80 - $100k annual for export compliance. Midwest $60k

You're quite a ways off on your $60K (Midwest) opinion. Add $45K+ to that and you're more in line with what a Reg. Affairs Manager makes in the Midwest. East/West coasts could pay $10K-$15K more.
