What are typical research assistant salaries? Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

I think for someone with strong record of publications and 3-5 years of experience average it's 38-40 K. Unless you start working for a private sector company, it's 40-45 for an entry level. It's really not that much money and you have to like it to do it. If you think of it , it's fare considering how little post-docs make (around 38-43 K by NIH standards).
I'd love to hear from people that manage to earn much more than that doing research and where they work.

Where did you get your job at RA if you don't mind me asking? I'm a recent grad with a biology degree living in Columbus. I've been trying to get a job in research for the past 5 months with no luck. Thanks.
