Lots of my peers were lazy at clinical sites and RT is a small world. If your good the word will get around and jobs will take time but you will get in. Normally once you get your first job as long as its not at a SNF you should have less trouble getting subsequent jobs. I graduated in 2009 in SoCal which is probably the worst market for RTs with schools pumping out new grads on every corner. I've had 6 rt jobs since then moving all around socal. Not always the most desirable job but get what you can. When it's actually bad, really bad. They think cause they have 20 years experience and have 3 jobs. That jobs are easy to come by for everybody. I graduated in August 2011 and and found myself feeling less than hopeful at times. I went on a job interview in early December to a hospital that I had done multiple clinical rotations in and the interview lasted maybe 10 minutes. I got a call later on that week and I got the job so it was a great Christmas present! You might actually be the lucky one. Don't give up and don't let anyone dissuade you. I have my very down days, I get depressed a lot. I'm tired of being poor and not having anything and I hoped that I would get picked up by some NICU willing to train, but those are very difficult to find. But like I said... Not impossible. Maybe you will be the lucky one. Start looking now and calling hospitals as a student to find out. I feel that I have learned something that will stay with me for a lifetime, even if sadly I never put it to use. I think I might apply for nursing now. I'm very thankful to my instructor and the people that helped me out during RT school, there's just simply no jobs in California and I cannot afford to move to another state.
