Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most safety manager opportunities?

After a 5 year run with a national home builder I have entered the ranks of the unemployed. I have pretty much given up on residential construction turning around any time soon. Commercial construction is now feeling the credit crunch. I am focusing on civil and petrochemical construction to restart my carrer. Unfortunatlely a labor dispute is causing a delay with refinery workers threatening to strike and stop any new construction.
I am seeing a plethera of safety jobs being offered all over the country, especially Texas where OSHA has turned a blind eye for the past 8 years. I have faith that the new administration will set up enforcement as well as funding for OSHA which will force companies to hie more safety professionals. Keep your eyes open and your network in tact.

Hopefully some of those openings will spread to the Chicago area too!
