Hi! I just started a retail job and I work in the clothing and shoes department. First job out of college! :) WOOO!!! 1. Product Knowledge: When a customer needs a certain product you must be the one to find out what they need and find the right product in the store to match what they want. If you don't know the products in the store how can you get them what they want? 2. Communication: Coming hand-in-hand with the last skill, communication is just as important. You need to communicate with both coworkers and customers. A high-level of communication with coworkers is needed for a number of reasons: to reduce theft within the store (giving your coworkers the heads-up to keep their eyes on someone who is a little sketch), to provide customer service to those who you cannot help, to access info. about products you are unfamiliar with, and etcetera. It is also important to communicate well with customers. What do they want exactly? What will they be using the product for? What environment will they be using the product in? What particular qualities do they want their item to have? You need to communicate well with them to find out what they want so you can match those qualities with products in the store. Listen well to them. 3. Customer Service: You must be willing to go above and beyond what the customer asks for within the rules of the the company you work for. You want the customer to feel understood and valued. If they want another size in a shoe run out to the damn warehouse to find what they want. Maybe they need a different size? Do it again with a smile on your face. What if you don't have their size? Be willing to call another store of your company or another store that your company supports to find it for them. The important thing is that the customer feels valued and will want to come back to the store you work at. Not only will this make your customers satisfied, but you will feel the accomplishment of a job well done & your boss will notice. :) |

THERE ARE MANY EXCELLLENT WAYS TO BUILD A CUSTOMER BASE- THE CLIENT BOOK IS GREAT BUT IT IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS ACCEPTING WHO YOUR CUSTOMER IS AND WHO SHE WANTS TO BE. SHE IS A TOURIST AND YOUR THE GUIDE- YOU CAN NOT GUARANTEE HER TRIP TO BE SUCCESSFUL BUT BY WATCHING HER EYES AND LISTENING YOU CAN ALMOST KNOW WHAT HER NEEDS AND GOAL ARE THAT WAY. |

Balassimo is correct! You have to find out what your customer's needs and desires are, so ask questions to better know how to help your customers.
