What is the best training for becoming a security consultant? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective security consultant?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

I am an long ago retired Personal protection specialist(international).wondering what it would take for someone with my background to become a consultant.I am only 45 yrs old but now suffer a time induced back injury resulting in walking with a cane! thus the old days of physical engagements are gone...but the mind, experience, and of course the will are still alive and well.

Dear Security Mind:

I am a fomer director of campus security who was laid off due to workforce cuts. I have 35 years experience in security, taughht as an adjunct and possess a masters degree in computer network security.

Is it your opinion that consulting jobs exist in this recession? Do you know how one would market such an adventure?

Thanks, hope we can chat further!

Rob,

From what I have seen, computer security consulting has a better chance than many others. Otherwise I see these security equipment companies doing their thing soliciting for "business security consultants" instead of calling it what it is...Sales!
Try a consulting broker, www.LinkedIn.com, www.Dice.com, www.Indeed.com, etc.

Mike
