DoseofSecurity in Miami, Florida said: Good afternoon,

I have recently started a security company in Miami, FL. I have acquired all the required licenses and have had employees from my other company licensed in security. Therefore, I can have 30 licensed employees ready to begin in a security contract . I am now in the process of contract acquisition. During my research I have come across this forum and would appreciate any advice at grullj@yahoo.com.

Again thank you for your advice.

I started and ran a security guard company for about 8 years, after which point I successfully sold it to a regional security guard firm. I went on to become Director of Business Development at a large national firm, so I know the difficulty of selling security guard service. Since then I've gone on to start a software firm in the security industry. With the new company we have a pretty good blog that talks about selling security guard service, so I invite you to check out some of our articles at www.officerreports.com/blog/category/sales/. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us. Good luck!!!

I have worked in the Security industry for several years and have managed three separate properties with three different clients. Mostly retail, General Growth, Trademark and Northwood Retail; the time has come for me to branch out on my own as I have seen people running companies who are just not squared away and simply negligent.

I have made great contacts with the clients I have worked for and some have indicated that if I were to get together an R.F.P.(Request For Proposal) that they would look into hiring my company for their site.

The training, operations, and management are a piece of cake. The fees for liability insurance and unemployment insurance are the main obstacle.

Each state has different licensing requirements, as you all know. My question is, how to companies who work in multiple states have the time to apply for a business license for contract security in each individual state? If you are able to secure a contract in a different state, you will be expected to be able to start immediately and the business licensing process will easily take 4-6 weeks. Do you begin the process before you actually have obtained the contract? That seems like a waste of money if you are not successful in garnering contracts.

I live in Texas which is where my company will be based; it is where all of my contacts are so I know I will have contracts here and it makes perfect sense to set up the business here. However, when we grow and wish to branch out, that's when the issue would arise of having to have your business licensed in the states in which you are looking to grow.

tppatriot in New York, New York said: When I worked in corp sales, it was on commission, 15%. I was #2 in the national sales standing, so I quit to make 20% with #3 in the country.

If you are good, they'll agree or go elsewhere. You can also sell contracts for more than one company. ie: patrol services for one, CCTV for another, mall guards, etc.

Keep in touch. tppatriot at g mail I'll give you all the help I can. Do your best.

Would you have any interest in working for my sales force? I pay huge bonuses for contracts plus renewal commission ever time a contract renews.

I was hired as the Dir of Security in Chicago to open 6 new security offices in IL PA,FLA,GA,WY,TX. The company that hired me flew me to CA the same day and back the same day.

I was to hire salesmen hire guards, find locations for the offices. I'm not even getting the support for myself, I have contracts that have been asked for, for over 4 weeks, I have to almost beg for my pay check. I am experienced in bringing in $ 3-4 million dollar contracts , I can see its not with this company.

Is there a company out here looking for an experienced Sales & Business Development manager that I'm located in IL however I am a OEM NATIONAL US accounts manager. I have managed 38 Mfg Rep firms across the US.

I would like to speak to you about your opportunity,
Please contact me,

Hi All,

I've had the pleasure of starting my own security guard company, working for a large security guard provider, and starting a software company supporting security guard companies and I will tell you that starting a security guard company is one of the hardest, but most rewarding things that I have ever done. Based on my experiences in the security industry I write a lot of articles about the topic of selling security services. You can find those articles here.

Check out my company blog and let me know if I can be of assistance.

The best adivse I can think of is to find the people in your area that have alot of contacts and get to know them, when I started it was just me and a few officers, I took on a few "partners" and got some really BIG accounts. Figure out what people need and sell them on it. Always give quality not quantity. A roving patrol is the best money maker I have right now.
