Hi, I have been working in the nursing field for 16 years. I spend the last five five years pressuring bachelors in nursing only to change my mind and switched to a bachelors in science. I major in sociology with a minor in psychology and graduated in 12/06. My question is how I can get a job as a social worker, case manager, or counselor with minimal experiences. |

Don't give up! I like you and many others have tried to locate positions. However, we can not all start with positions that we desire. Try and try again. You might try working towards your gaol in life, just as you worked for the gaol in school!

Check the County of Los Angeles Dept of Public Social Services and also the Dept of families and Children Services. They usually have positions where you would start as a social worker trainee for one year. |

Beverly, I too found it hard getting my foot in the door right out of college. I found that networking was what got me my first job. My degree was in social work and ended up doing intake work for the local prosecutor's office. Now after 17 years in social services, I too am looking for other employment in the field. I would suggest looking for work with the State of Ill job bank, Department of Public Aid, lutheren and catholic social services, and other local entities of governement, etc. I have enclosed a few websites for your to view. You may also want to consider volunteering. There is another website for that as well. I wish you the best of luck! |
