A coworker of mine is a social worker who has been seeing the divorced parent of a child who is seeing a social worker that she supervises. My coworker typically holds group sessions for the parents to provide extra information/explain information and for referrals. The parent and my coworker began meeting professionally, but this has led to informal meetings as well. They have begun a relationship, but it is my understanding that my coworker has referred the client elsewhere, terminating their professional relationship. Is this ethical?
