I'm a recent graduate with PhD in computer science with 1 year industry experience. I got a job offer from an animation movie studio in San Francisco area. The position is R&D engineer. I like the position and the environment, but I'm not sure if their salary is good or not. Basically it's a non-exempt position, $38 an hour, 40 hours/week with 5 hours of over time. This comes out to be $79000 for a year with 40 hours/week, or about $94000 for a year with 45 hours/week (overtime). There is no bonus or stock options at this point, but might be added in the future.
So I'm wondering if this offer is decent. $94000 seems to be a decent number, but should I be concerned that I can only make this much if I work 45 hours/week? Is this pretty standard in the industry? I am probably going to take this offer considering current market.
Any comments would be very helpful. Thanks.
