hello. my name is miosotis and i attend valencia community college and my major is sonography. i have an exploration paper due next week in which i have to explore more about the major i want to pursue. and a task is to conduct an interview through phone, internet or personal.so i was wondering if anyone (a sonographer) can help me out into getting a step closer into achieving my dream by just answering a few questioms for me.please. whoever answers my questions i really appreciate it and god bless you. these are the questions: the person's name[person answering the questions]: job title: place of employment: years of practice: 1. what experience or knowledge is required to do your job? 2. how do Valencia's Core Compentencies( think, value, communicate, act) apply to this career? 3. what types of projects, assignments,or deadlines must you meet each day(a typical day on the job)? 4. does your job require overtime and what is your schedule? typical salary range? 5. what preparation or courses did you find necessary or helpful upon entering the job? 6. what is the biggest challenge you encounter? And again thank you so much. Miosotis Soto |

I'm sorry i'm not able to answer the questions above. But I do have questions about the Sonography Program at Valencia. Did you take all your general ed courses prior to applying for the program? How long did it take you to get into the program? I'm really interested in applying for the program in 2009 and would like some information. Can you please email me at amyh77@hotmail.com. Thanks, Amy |

Find another career other than Medical Sonography. There is an abundance of schools tuning tech's out like flies and not enough jobs in this tough time. The only profession in the medical field that seems to still be prospering is nursing. And they make more money too! Sorry! |

I disagree with the last post! The Medical Sonograpy field is growing rapidly and there are several occupations to choose from in this field. Of course, the more u know the more you'll make. Im a student of Valencia's Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and I done my research. |

I'm a student in VCC's sonography program and I can tell you that I would think twice. Everything in this program is pure negativity. Not sure about the other schools, but they not only treat us like high schoolers, but their coorespondance with their students is degrading and downright insulting. They are constantly tearing us down and telling us ways we can fail and completely screw up. I know their graduates know their stuff, but at what cost?! I don't agree with their methods at all. We're going into the medical field to be compassionate and caring toward our patients, but if we're not even being treated that way by our instructors, what message is that sending?? |

I just took 4 per diem jobs and turned down 2 full time jobs. The per diem pay is great and I have been working about 70 hrs a wk to pay off my bills! I think there are jobs, but they come in spurts. And if you are a new tech, they are hard to get. Someone has to be willing to give you a chance, or your clinical site needs to be impressed and hiring. I am a brand new tech who graduated in July, but our school helped us out as well! Good Luck! :) |
