I think that number one trait has to be that you care. This should not just a job, but a calling.

Definitely, the most difficult job I have had in my entire life is working with a group of middle school-aged (6th, 7th & 8th grades--in the same class) emotionally handicapped kids. If you want to increase your experiences in the special education field, this is the way to do it. Wow!
