Hello there! I've got an undergrad in Psych and have explored every career under the sun (HR, Public Admin, Occupational Therapy, School Counseling, School Psychology) and it seems there is always something about those fields that isn't do it for me or the lack of opportunities. I hear so many great things about speech pathology. What is a school working day like? When you say it is stressful, is it good stressfull, or want to scream stressful? About how many students would you see per day on average? And the good 'ol - "If you could do it all over again, would you choose this field?" Thanks!

I also had an undergrad degree in psychology.....way back in 1977. After a few years of unrelated work, a friend recommended the speech pathology program. I found that a few of my psych courses could transfer over. Long story short, I completed an undergrad and grad program in 2 years of year round classes, (graduated in 1980) It was the best decision I've ever made, and I've been in the field for 31 years now. There are lots of options besides school sp.path. positions....you'll just have to work in some and see what you like the best. I've done all settings and they all have advantages and disadvantages. The best thing about this field is the great diversity in work settings and specialties. Enjoy! |
