I'm a Year 12 student living in Vancouver, Canada who will be graduating High School in Summer of 2010. I haven't made a final decision as of yet, but I'm looking towards a career in Statistics, Corporate Accounting, Banking, or Risk Management. I've a few questions concerning the job market for statisticians that I was hoping I'd find the answers for here.
1) I heard that job market for Risk Management dove steeply in the past while after everyone found out about it. What does it take to be competitive as a Statistician in the market today?
2) To seasoned statisticians (as ironic as this question may be considering it is in your line of work), what is the trend of the job market for mathematicians following dips in the economy similar to the one we are currently having? Since I expect I'll graduate from University around 2016, when I hope we'll be in a state of prosperity once again, what sort of job market will I be looking at?
Thanks for your time!
