What are the top 3 traits or skills every statistician must have to excel?

Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your statistician expertise?

For me, certainly a deep theoretical knowledge in probability and inference matters. Practical expertise with databases and SQL. Practical expertise with the most used statistical software packages like SPSS, SAS, SPAD, etc.. obviously in spreadsheet modeling in Excel, Origin, etc. too.

Top Statistician need to have strong theoretical background. I always recomend the attainment of the Chartered Statistician status with the Royal Statistical Society- its difficult but provides a practical approach. Application of SPSS, SAS, etc is strongly recomended as well.

I am just chartered, I think these are the 4 things you need
1. Theoritical Background
2. Practical Experience
3. Communication (something I don't really have much, so I am earning very little)
4. Logic

Basically everything......

I thought I will say a bit more about my opinion:

For Theoritical Background,
a. Probability
b. Regression
c. Modelling

For Practical Experience,
a. Data Cleansing
b. Simulation
c. Organising Data for Visualising

For Communication,
a. Never, never insult people. Always be humble and prase the others (the most difficult things to do)
b. Know how to explain the jargon
c. Asking the right question, becasue other may not know what they exactly want

For Logic,
a. Constructing solution with basic statistics theory
b. Programming codes
c. Recording procedures so that the work is reproducible.
