What are the top 3 traits or skills every substitute teacher must have to excel?

Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your substitute teacher expertise?

#1 Be very flexible and understanding of all the staff and support personnel you encounter in any school on any given day, ego comes into play and you may be percieved as either , an outsider, less of a teacher or a target for students to redicule. Prove them wrong with your best effort ALWAYS! and you will be respected and appreciated.
#2 Have and nurture a good sense of humor, students will expect someone who is boring, tell a small story or joke at the right time and this will help you bond and show them you care .
#3Arrive early, befriend the Office Secretary assigning your schedule , ask questions as to where the Attendence office is, who is the Assistant Principal you will work under , (know the Name) and the phone number of the Deans office in case of a major behavioral problem, as well as how to obtain Dean's Office Referral Forms, a name mentioned or the sight of a Referral Form works wonders with students who will choose to misbehave because a "Sub" is in class that day.
