The following tools are required to be an effective SQE skills with readiness to understand and absorb the given process of all suppliers. This is the most important skills, a type of skills that mostly management consultant posses them all.
SQE role is as consultant, problem solver, business process improver lifting the supplier - bottom line performer to top level business performer, finally an integrator of suppliers business performance to corporate supply chain link

The minimum tools required are as below

Traditional audit tool
Supply chain knowledge
Sourcing, purchasing and procurement skills
Process capability studies and improvement tools
process and manufacturing techniques
Lean Six Sigma tool with value stream mapping tools
Non conformance management with root cause problem solving , FMEA, CAPA tools
Measurement analysis, GDT, GRR, sampling tools, SPC
Various lead times in purchasing and production
