I graduated last year and make 15.00 a hour. I work the weekend/nights so I get an additional 2.50 for nights, and anothter 2.50 for weekends. First Assistants are usually P.A.'s or Registered Nurses. Surgical techs can be a CST-FA if they take an additional class and have a certain amount of surgical hours. Where I work the FA are all either a P.A. or a RNFA no CST-FA allowed. I have found myself in the FA role a lot of times when no FA is available, yet no extra pay :P

I worked at one hospital where all the FAs are CST-FAs. My current hospital hires no CST-FAs and instead, they only accept CRNFAs and MD FAs. They're also moving towards an all-RN staff in the OR.
