Im a CST and I have come across a new job title... Tech in Surgery-Certified. I have been doing some research and apparently there is another center for obtaining the certification. The National Center for Competency Testing (www.ncctinc.com)offers a certification to a surgical tech who has not graduated from an accredited program but has completed on the job training with a minimum 1 year of experience. Anybody have any thoughts about this??? |

The NCCT cert. is difficult to obtain and maintain, I have seen it first hand from coworkers who did not graduate from an accredited program. I am not a fan of AST, however, that is the governing body for what we do and it is wise to adhere to that standard. |

I attended the Bryman School in Phoenix, AZ about 10 years ago. However when I was first a student I did not know the difference between certified, accredited or otherwise. I just knew about the curriculum and classes I had to attend, and they were great. I had to study and went to school everyday 5 days for one year then did an extersship at a hospital of my choice and learned surgical procedures according to hospital standards. I was able to sit for NCCT exam and found out is the same exact exam but another company bought the rights to offer it for non-accredited schools. I had no trouble getting jobs and in fact am excellent at my job/career and went on and am now going back to school to be a physician assistant. |
