Hello all,

I just recently graduated from a ST program and I'm finding it very difficult to find a job, we have a career services center but they can't seem to find me anything. What should I do????

Thanks!

Jason

What's Up Jason I live in IL, I graduated in 8/07 and haven't found a job yet, damn near every hospital requires at least 1 year experience and some of them dont even consider your extern/internship experience at all but keep the faith and keep trying someone will give you a chance dont give up it is a very good field to get into there are so many avenues and so much money to be made. I joined this forum to see if it was only me having a hard time but it is going on everywhere in different states so dont think about relocating stay were your at and keep trying and study as much as you can to keep your memory fresh.

Thank you for the comments! I'm glad it's not just me! I've tried a few temp. agencies but run into the same problem: they require at least 1 year experience before they will even consider you.

If anyone has any other ideas on where to look, let me know! I'm trying surgery centers now, wish me luck!

Thanks!

Jason

I am getting really depressed trying to find work as a ST everyone wants experience. Come on some has to take a chance on us so that we can gain what we need to move on. I am working and I am thankful for that but I want to work as a Surgical Tech I love this career so much its just a shame I can't find the work.

I'm about to start the program at a school, do you think it's worth going to school for if you can't even find a job without experience?

I just graduated from an accrdited surgical tech school and haven't found a job also. Everyone wants at least a certification, or years experince. It can be a discouraging challenge, but i just keep trying!...I jus try to work in a field as close as a scrub tech can get while i still search for a job in my field as a scrub tech...

Check the AST website. At any given time they have many jobs. If you want to come to Iowa, we hire without certification and without experience.

I talked to my aunt who is a charge nurse (RN) at Northeast Medical Center, and she said once i take my state certification and get certified i should start out with volunteer services at any hospital or outpatient surgical center even if they dont hire u just to keep u refreshed on your skills...U cant even volunteer unless u certified through the state...Then I also talked to a doctor, he told me to get a degree in science, it could be online and the program can be as short or long as u want it to be. It just looks better and it helps..Especially the online degree in science. Thats what im doing right now. more comments or talk my email is brandybtb@yahoo.com

hi everyone. Just curious what schools you attended for surgical tech? We have a program here thats a year long and is fully accredited. I have heard bad stories about people who went to a school that wasn't accredited and then couldn't find a job. A friend of mine finished her program and was offered a job a great hospital downtown right after. They started her at 18.00/hr base pay and an intership. She had zero experience! Good luck with your job hunting.

I graduated In March 2009, Im still looking for a Surg Tech Position's. Yes I have had Interviews, but One company wanted more experience. More Hospitals need to give recent Graduates a chance to grow and gain experience. Its so hard to find a job, but I guess im not alone. God Bless U and hopeful we will all find something.

I blame the schools but they know we need more then a few months of training. Most place ask for 2 years of experience. We might have a better chance. If school have made sure we get more training. Then my school had me thinking if a pass the written part of the certication test I will certified. That is so not true. But I do know a few people who have got jobs, and are not certified. That was just pure luck. Just keep trying, and stay positive.
