Will it be smart if i become a surgical tech and try to get into medical school?

I want to become a surgical technician and still attend school. I want to go to medical school to become a general surgeon so i know becoming a surgical technician will give me more of an advantage since i will already have knowledge in surgery. What do you think i should do?
