What is the best training for becoming a hirable teacher? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective teacher? What do non-traditional career paths look like? |

I've been both a teacher at the Community College level and in corporate training and development. I can tell you corporate training, especially in the tech fields, pay way more than a teacher just starting out. However, the environments are 2 very different beasts. Tech fields are stressful and sometimes 60 hour work weeks; if you like a progressive, business environment where heads roll when things don't get done, this may be for you. However, teaching for the state is secure, structured, more laid back, and you have defined time off....thus the reason I'm going back to a state teaching job. |
