How did you get your start doing teacher work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

I am currently a volunteer for my public school district. Volunteering gives me a chance to see just what it's like to be a teacher. I volunteer part time for a few hours per day. I have done over 100 hours with a total of two schools. It's very enlightening and challenging.

I have a Bachelor's in Ethnic Studies from the University of Washington. It really helps me understand the complex issues in society more clearly. It has been a tremendous asset to my life and in volunteering as a teaching assistant.

You can get paid to be a teaching assistant but you need reference letters and some experience. I am considering that as my next step.

I want to get my certification through a master's in teaching program at a local private university called City University. I am just waiting on reference letters from the teachers I work with.

Good luck
