in the auto industry most mediocre illustrators made between 12 and 20 dollars an hour, a Senior Illustrator should make around 60,000 - 70,000 per year.

There are a number of WEB sites online that do just this. Compair salaries nation wide.
I worked with Lockheed as a Multimedia Design Engineer (Tech Illustrator on the WEB) for $62K a year, then with KLA-Tencor as a TI, doing WEB supporting illustrations for about the same amount.
According to these salary compair sites, I just under the national average.
